Once we got Preston home from the hustle and bustle of the hospital we were excited to show him around his house. We picked up my mother (Nana) from the airport a couple hours after we got discharged. Nana was so excited to get off the plane and see her new grandson in the car waiting to meet her. It was a busy day but VERY exciting!
With everything that happened that day we realized Preston hadn't eaten. He was dismissed from the hospital with a light case of jaundice. His blood work showed that his bilirubin level wasn't high enough to keep him in the hospital another day. With Preston's refusal to feed with me or take any supplemental formula we called upon a wonderful resource, a lactation consultant, who also happened to be mother of my closest friends (Tara), Kim helped us through the his refusal to eat. She was a god sent he started eating and getting back on schedule.
The next day was calm and relaxed. He ended up getting a nice little sponge bath. Rob took several shots of him not enjoying the quick little cleaning. He did love the towel and robe aftermath though. We relaxed and watched Preston appear to recognize our voices, stare at all the newness and make cute little movements and poses.

The time finally came for our first appointment with the pediatrician. We were excited to see how much he weighed from when he left the hospital. Preston was 6 lbs 14oz when we were discharged. At the appointment he was back up to 7lbs 1oz. He breezed through all the checks and such but his jaundice was unfortunately ever more present in his system. The doctor wanted blood work drawn immediately to see how high the bilirubin count was. He told us he would have a bili blanket sent to our house for Preston to use. We left and went straight away to get the blood work done, around 7pm that night we had the bili blanket delivered to us and early the next morning I got a call from our doctor that Preston's bilirubin number was VERY high and needed to come in immediately to be seen by someone in the office.

That morning I sprung out of bed, threw clothes on and got Preston over to the office. The doctors there agreed that he did look better than he did the day before but they needed more blood work to know for sure. So... it was back to the lab and after an hours wait we were home back on the bili blanket light to combat the jaundice. We also got a chance to take him out into the direct sunlight to help out. Several hours later we got a call with good news. Preston's bilirubin number was down significantly. We are continuing the light treatment, outdoor treatment and keeping up on feedings and all. His color is looking better every hour and we are well on the way to getting this under control. We head into the weekend with a sigh of relief and thankful that we didn't have another stay in the hospital.
